SUN, SAND AND FUN

Cherokee Sound is a quaint community in Abaco with history dating back as far as 1783.

In keeping with many settlements throughout the islands of the Bahamas, Cherokee Sound has neat, narrow concrete streets and beautiful pastel painted house with intricate woodwork that has stood the tests of time (and more than a few hurricanes!).Beautifully tranquil, it is surrounded by stunning beaches, an amazing creek teeming with marine life, and a blue-hole system with some incredible deep-sea and bone fishing.

The settlement is also home to the longest dock in Abaco, known simply by locals as 'The Long Dock', along with the only over-water bridge in  the Abaco islands, known as Bridge Creek.

Far less fished and crowded than the more widely known Andros fishing grounds, the Cherokee sandy flats offer some of the best bonefishing to be found in the region, offering  stunning white sand wading flats as well as the option of poling or paddling through the mangroves.  We can put you in touch with best guides in the area to set you off on your bonefishing adventure.

After a day's fishing, or just a day exploring, close by you will find the famous "Pete's Pub", a beachside restaurant that is also home to the only working sculpture foundry in the Bahamas and a gallery of amazing art, jewellery and sculpture for sale.

Head north 30 minutes (you may need a car for this one) and you'll find yourself in Marsh Harbour - stop and do some shopping, grab a bite in one of the extensive range of restuarants, or hop on a ferry and head to Elbow Cay, home of the famous Hope Town Lighthouse. You can also grab a ferry to Green Turtle Cay, or head over to Man 'O War Cay to find the last remaining boat builders in the islands.
